We have extensive experience with
encoding pre-recorded media for web-readiness. There are many options for internet video. The format and quality of the video
depend upon many factors. "Live" or "On Demand"? One recipient or thousands
at a time? A "talking head" with very little movement or a hockey game?
If you can't view these videos, download windows media player from
Microsoft.
Here are a few samples of what's possible.
These samples are average quality MPEG videos that were encoded from a personal video camera. It's most suitable for
pre-recorded on demand video. It can be streamed live but only to a small
audience with very high speed internet connections. (Watch the Vette's race!)
The next sample below is in windows media format at 250 Kbits per seconds. The quality is not as good as the first sample (Make it full screen) but it's only
1/2 Meg instead of 3 Megs. It can be streamed to multiple cable modem/DSL
lines. It can also be downloaded by slow connections and played later. 56 K
modems will "almost" play it live. This format is suitable for pre-recorded
on demand video or live video. It's a good "medium ground".
The third sample is very low quality. It's only 56k/second in speed. This
format is suitable when live video is more important than anything else. It can
be viewed live or pre recorded on a dial up modem. The choice of video,
a knight riding a horse, is a poor choice for this format but we wanted to keep
the video consistent so the differences could easily be seen. A close up of
someone reading the evening news would be much more appropriate for this
format.
